To assist users of the standard, the Applied Technology Council, with funding from FEMA and assistance from SEAOC, has published FEMA P-2006: Example Application Guide for ASCESEI 41-13 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Building with Additional Commentary for ASCESEI 41-17.FEMA P-2006 provides illustrations of the ASCE 41 evaluation and retrofit methodologies and helpful information on interpretation and use of the ASCE 41 provisions.

He has over 30 years of experience in structural design of new buildings, seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of existing buildings, peer review and plan checking, and applied research and guideline development. Asce 41 13 Example Update To FEMAHe was project manager and coauthor of FEMA 547 Techniques for Seismic Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings, a coauthor of FEMA 306307 Evaluation of Earthquake Damaged Concrete and Masonry Wall Buildings, Project Technical Director for the update to FEMA P-154 Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards, and the Project Technical Director for ATC-124 project that led to the publication of FEMA P-2006. He is a past president of the Applied Technology Council and the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California. RON LAPLANTE, DIVISION OF THE STATE ARCHITECT Ron LaPlante, S.E., is a Supervising Structural Engineer with the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and is responsible for overseeing all structural plan review for schools in San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties. He has been at the DSA for 15 years and served as the engineer responsible for promulgating the DSA structural amendments in the 2013 and 2016 California Building Code. Asce 41 13 Example Code Development AndHe is active in building code development and is a member of the ASCE 7 Seismic Subcommittee. He is a contributing author to the ATC-124FEMA P-2006 Example Application Guide for ASCE 41-13. Prior to joining DSA, Ron was a practicing structural engineer focused on seismic rehabilitation of existing buildings and new building design. Ron earned a BS from Cal Poly Pomona and a MS from UC Berkeley.
